Wholeheartedness is about being focused on positive traits and good qualities and not being focused on a person’s shortcomings. According to Brown, wholeheartedness is based on five ideals. The first ideal is the notion that every human being needs love and a sense of belonging, the second is that those who feel that they belong somewhere and that they are loved also believe that they are worthy. Furthermore, Brown says that if a person does not allow for himself or herself to be vulnerable, that person will definitely shut down from the positive things that life has for him or her. Being vulnerable means to start doing something even when you do not know for certain that you will prevail and when a person tries to protect itself from being vulnerable, he/she does that as a measure of fear and disconnection.
